What is Oktoberfest?
The history behind Oktoberfest is that it was originally held in Germany as a celebration of the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildurghausen. The organizers held a festival and a horse race, leading to the birth of Oktoberfest that has developed into a popular annual tradition. The largest Oktoberfest party in the world is held every year in Munich, Germany. They go all out with beer tents, Oktoberfest decorations, and the ceremonial tapping of the first keg of beer by the Munich mayor. Traditionally, Oktoberfest begins the third weekend in September and lasts approximately 16 days. In the United States we often call it Octoberfest and celebrate it in October. Whatever you call it and whenever you celebrate it, we have the decorations to make it memorable.
