How To: 5 Oktoberfest Decoration Tips

Oktoberfest is a fun time for everyone, with many places around the globe hosting events for the public to enjoy. The original, and largest, festival is held in Munich, Germany, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have one at your house too!

Oktoberfest runs for 16 days, so even if someone is planning a party, you have 15 other days to plan your own!

PartyCheap has all of the Oktoberfest party supplies you need for your event to look like the one in Munich, Germany. Make sure you have plenty of beer and food prepared, and start inviting all of your friends to come join the fun!

  1. Colors: The official colors of Bavaria, where Munich and Oktoberfest are located, are blue and white. Solids, stripes or patterns are fine. Another, less traditional option is to use the German flag for your color scheme for a red, black and gold combination. Repeat your color scheme throughout your party location using banners, pennants, table covers, and tableware featuring the colors and patterns.

  2. Tents: During Oktoberfest, large tents are set up and each one decorated according to the brewers theme and colors. If you don’t have enough space indoors, set-up a canopy in your back yard. Be sure to decorate with pennants, banners, or streamers and balloons to keep the Oktoberfest theme going. If your party is indoors you can hang a flat sheet, sting pennants, or balloons and streamers above your dining room table. Remember to decorate any seating you may decide to have around the table as well.

  3. Tasting Table: Oktoberfest is about the beer, so providing your guests a variety of choices to try is important. If you're providing flights of beer, be sure to label each with it's name, and style characteristics. If your guests are choosing from a selection, label each keg or cooler with the same information.

  4. Decorations: Posters, scene setters, beer garten signs, German road signs, pennants and flags all make great decorations. Giving each of your guests an Alpine hat, party braids, or official "Beer Tester" button as they arrive helps get your guests into the spirit of Oktoberfest. Providing the hat or braids in exchange for their car keys is a fun way to keep everyone safe.

  5. Costumes: Planning to go all-in as the host? That means traditional German attire like lederhosen and an alpine hat for the men and a dirndl and braids for the women.
